Pencil It In – By Jody Blackwood

fox & mae offer regular style and makeup tips.  Take a look at our recent update on the Little black pencil skirt.

Style & fashion tips this Week.

Most New Zealand women have a little black pencil skirt somewhere in our wardrobes – usually consigning this fashion item to the realm of ‘functional work wear basic’. Don’t you think, it might be time for a rethink?

Skirts, in their many style forms, have made a bit of a comeback for winter 2014 after many previous seasons dominated by dresses and pants.

Of the many types of skirts available as stylish wear, the focus of fashion this year is definately on the pencil skirt. It’s an easy, go-to fashion and style classic that can look modern and feminine with just a touch of sexy.

As a Fox and Mae Personal Image Consultant I’ll go out on a limb here and say that it works on pretty much all body types, frames and shapes.   From a makeover  perspective, you just need to consider the proportions of what you wear on top and where it finishes on your leg (narrow bit just below the knee).

We are  big believers in maximising the wear and use of each garment hence the focus for this styling tip –  the classic, black, pencil skirt.

We have put together a few makeover looks that can cover your style,  from work – to  weekend – to a glam night out.

The skirt I’ve used throughout the spread is from Forever New – great shape and fit with cool -metal zip detail to give it a bit more edge. Play with what you have at home or check out these pieces in store (lots of them have hit the sale rack too!).
